Sorting out separation is part of the governments Help and Support for Separated Families (HSSF) network, which aims to help separated parents work together to achieve what’s best for their children.
Bringing up children involves lots of joint decisions. If you are separated, it’s harder to make these decisions and plans as you go along. ‘Splitting Up? Put Kids First’ helps you to create a FREE Parenting Plan online and learn the skills you need to make it work for you both. A parenting plan is a written or online agreement between parents. It helps you record how you will share the care of your child now and in the future. It can easily be changed and is not a legally binding agreement.
Child contact centres and services are neutral places where children of separated families can enjoy contact with their non-resident parents and sometimes other family members, in a comfortable and safe environment.
Home-Start volunteers help families with young children deal with the challenges they face. We support parents as they learn to cope, improve their confidence and build better lives for their children. They have over 250 Home Start projects accross the country – more info here.
